I want to talk about how I hate soda but love a brand called OLIPOP…
I was initally drawn to try OLIPOP because of the packaging. Yup—it was their visual branding that sold me on the product.
I mean, just look at the picture above… how gorgeous is it?! I love how it feels modern but has hints of traditional soda brands. The serif font they use for the flavor name feels a tad vintage. So it feels sleek and new, yet a bit nostalgic all at the same time.
And interestingly, I immediately trusted the brand because of where I discovered it. I first saw that beautiful packaging in the refrigerator at Bareburger, a popular NYC burger chain. And this created a brand-trust domino effect in my mind.
Hear me out:
I trust Bareburger because they only source super high quality, organic, grass fed beef for their burgers, along with tons of delicious organic produce and homemade sauces. Bareburger’s entire brand is built on this idea, and they make a point to show their customers how quality is a value of theirs.
So naturally, I also trust Bareburger to sell other good quality products—in this case, OLIPOP.
While picking up our takeout burger order, I grabbed a Vintage Cola Oliopop for my dad and a Ginger Lemon Olipop for me because the flavor just sounded too good to be true… and we both LOVED them.
So, the visual branding and my trust in Bareburger got me to give it a try. What has kept me as a customer?
1. They’re really transparent about their ingredients
Their website is really easy to navigate and they have a great graphic explaining what each of their ingredients are and the benefits. This is a far cry from most soda brands, who do not want to highlight the fact that their products are made up of harmful chemicals such as high fructose corn syrup and caramel color.
2. They clearly state the benefits
Unlike most soda brands, OLIPOP was designed to be delicious and benefit your microbiome and digestive health. And they talk about this everywhere—on the cans themselves, their website, social media, and more. As a brand with many competitors, we know it’s important to not just say WHAT the product is (a yummy soda) but WHY it helps their customers (digestive health).
3. They feel fun + relatable
Just look at their Instagram account and you’ll see how much fun OLIPOP has as a brand:
Yes, they’re a “health” brand in many ways, but they aren’t afraid of a delicious root beer float:
They are willing to laugh with their customers about stuff like this:
And they have really fun product photography—that’s not only fun to look at, but also feels relatable in the sense that you don’t have to “give up soda” to enjoy things like a movie night:
In closing, while I was initially drawn to buy OLIPOP because of their visual branding… but I’m still a customer because of so much more than that.
